Titan liquid Judea bitumen, 100 ml. The small tin: the one for trying the product, or for sorting out a single piece, a frame, some mouldings or some hardware.
It arrives ready dissolved and ready to use. It is the dearest of the three per millilitre, so it makes sense if you do not yet know how much you will get through, or if you just want to see how it looks before committing to a big tin.

If you would rather mix it to your own strength, there is the Judea bitumen powder.
How to use it
It comes ready to use, but almost nobody applies it neat: neat it gives a very dark, opaque brown. Thin it with white spirit or turpentine to the tone you want, brush it on so it works into the grain and the mouldings, and wipe the excess off with a rag before it dries, which is where the effect comes from. Start weak and darken in coats: lightening an overdone tone is far harder than adding another pass. Once dry it takes acrylic or water-based paint over the top.

  • Plaster: mouldings, frames and casts.
  • Clay and unglazed ceramic bisque.
  • Worked metal and hardware.
  • Gilding: knocks back the shine of gold leaf and gilt.
It needs a porous or textured surface to grip. On a smooth sealed surface it slides off and leaves no effect.
Safety: product classified as hazardous
Signal word: Danger. The bitumen itself is not the hazardous component; the risk comes from the solvent it is dissolved in.

Keep out of reach of children and work in a ventilated area away from flames, sparks and heat sources: the flash point is 42 °C. Do not induce vomiting if swallowed. Read the manufacturer safety data sheet before use.
